Pelagic Bluewater Kit
The Bluewater Kit
For overnight passages, coastal crossings, and voyages 12 to 48 hours from advanced medical care.
The overnight run that's usually fine. The coastal passage that turns into a weather delay. The crossing where the nearest hospital is a day away and diverting isn't a simple call. This is the range where "wait it out" stops being a plan and "manage it properly" becomes the only option.
The Pelagic Bluewater Kit is our most popular offshore medical preparedness system, designed by board-certified physicians with extensive experience in remote and austere medicine. Where a coastal kit stops the bleeding and gets you to a dock, Bluewater is built to actually assess and manage a patient—vital signs, wound closure, IV access—for the hours it takes to reach care.
It provides the equipment needed to respond to:
- Major bleeding and deep lacerations requiring suture or staple closure
- Fractures and sprains
- Burns and blisters
- Dental emergencies
- The everyday illnesses that become far more consequential a day from help
Diagnostic tools—blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, pulse oximeter—let you gather the clinical picture a physician would ask for, whether you're managing the situation yourself or relaying findings by radio or satellite phone.
Every component is housed in a rugged, waterproof hard case and organized into clearly labeled, color-coded pouches. The equipment you'll need in the first critical moments of an emergency is exactly where you expect it to be. In a crisis, you shouldn't be searching through a box of supplies—you should be responding with confidence.
The Pelagic Medical Protocol Manual—included with every kit.
Spiral-bound and laminated, written for the crew member who has to use it in a seaway at night. Clear, step-by-step protocols covering the equipment and procedures in your kit—from bleeding control and wound care to fracture management and cardiac assessment. This manual is the clinical brain of the kit: it turns equipment into capability, so the person holding it can act with confidence even without medical training.
More than a first aid kit, the Bluewater Kit is a complete offshore medical preparedness system built to help you assess, manage, and stabilize—and to venture farther from shore.
Pairs well with Pelagic Medical's physician access services, available separately, giving you a direct line to a physician for guidance on using this kit and managing evolving situations underway.
Prescription Medications — Available Through Physician Consultation
Your kit covers the equipment. For the medications that can matter just as much offshore, Pelagic Medical offers a physician-guided prescription program built for voyagers heading beyond easy reach of a pharmacy.
Through a telemedicine consultation with one of our physicians, eligible mariners can obtain a standardized offshore medication set—antibiotics, anti-nausea, cardiac, and other medications chosen for common at-sea situations—filled through our preferred pharmacy partners and ready to carry aboard for the voyage. No controlled substances are included.
We'd be glad to walk you through how it works and whether it's the right fit for your plans. This is a separate clinical service, offered independently of kit purchase and available to those who qualify following consultation, with all prescribing at the discretion of the treating physician.
