Pelagic Expedition Kit
The Expedition Kit
For ocean passages, high-latitude voyages, and expeditions where definitive medical care is measured in days—not hours.
The farther you travel from shore, the more self-reliant you become. In a medical emergency, your greatest asset isn't just the equipment you carry—it's the preparation you made before you cast off.
The Pelagic Expedition Kit is our flagship offshore medical preparedness system, designed by board-certified physicians with extensive experience in remote and austere environments. Built for serious passagemakers, it provides a comprehensive medical solution for those who venture well beyond the reach of immediate medical care—the capability to not just assess and treat a patient, but to sustain them over days until definitive care is reached.
It provides the equipment needed to respond to:
- Major bleeding, deep lacerations, and penetrating chest trauma
- Airway emergencies
- Fractures and burns
- Dental and eye emergencies
- The everyday illnesses that become far more consequential when help is hundreds of miles away
Carefully selected diagnostic tools—including blood glucose and otoscopic examination—help you gather meaningful clinical information, because better information leads to better decisions, whether you're managing the situation yourself or relaying findings to a physician.
Every component is housed in a rugged, waterproof hard case and organized into clearly labeled, color-coded pouches. The equipment you'll need in the first critical moments of an emergency is exactly where you expect it to be. In a crisis, you shouldn't be searching through a box of supplies—you should be responding with confidence.
The Pelagic Medical Protocol Manual—included with every kit.
Spiral-bound and laminated, written for the crew member who has to use it in a seaway at night. Clear, step-by-step protocols covering the equipment and procedures in your kit—from bleeding control and wound care to fracture management and cardiac assessment. This manual is the clinical brain of the kit: it turns equipment into capability, so the person holding it can act with confidence even without medical training.
More than a first aid kit, the Expedition Kit is a complete offshore medical preparedness system built to help you respond decisively—and to venture farther from shore.
Pairs well with Pelagic Medical's physician access services, available separately, giving you a direct line to a physician for guidance on using this kit and managing evolving situations underway.
Prescription Medications — Available Through Physician Consultation
Your kit covers the equipment. For the medications that can matter just as much offshore, Pelagic Medical offers a physician-guided prescription program built for voyagers heading beyond easy reach of a pharmacy.
Through a telemedicine consultation with one of our physicians, eligible mariners can obtain a standardized offshore medication set—antibiotics, anti-nausea, cardiac, and other medications chosen for common at-sea situations—filled through our preferred pharmacy partners and ready to carry aboard for the voyage. No controlled substances are included.
We'd be glad to walk you through how it works and whether it's the right fit for your plans. This is a separate clinical service, offered independently of kit purchase and available to those who qualify following consultation, with all prescribing at the discretion of the treating physician.
